Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Pain is complicated and injuries can be challenging to recover from. But this is our thing! We love to assess, educate, treat and ultimately rehabilitate those aches, pains, niggles or more serious injuries to your bones, muscles and joints. Whether it’s an on going annoying issue like a headache, or a more behaviour-changing chronic lower back or arthritic condition, it’s important that the care you get is tailored to meet your expectations and unique lifestyle circumstances. Our staff will lead you in overcoming your physical limitations and have you enjoying being active again.

Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy

Hurt yourself playing sport on the weekend? Or is annoying pain stopping you from achieving your exercise training goals? Sports Physios love getting to the driver of your problem, whether acute or chronic. It’s what we do and we are good at it! If it’s more serious then we can refer to our network of local Doctors and Surgeons. It could simply be a workload issue, from doing too much too soon, or have more of a biomechanical origin that needs to be actively addressed. Either way, we will take you from ‘pain’ back to ‘play’ as quickly as possible.

Orthopaedic Physiotherapy & Biokinetics

Nobody enjoys the prospect of having orthopaedic surgery, but it is often the only way to improve function and pain. Physiotherapy and Biokinetics can help you in two ways. Firstly, by making sure that you are as strong and as mobile as possible before the operation. Then once the Doc has successfully repaired the anatomy, we guide your recovery and ultimate your return to function. Its normal to be guarded at this time and it is not always easy knowing just how much or what type of things to be doing.

Exercise Rehabilitation / Private Rehab Gym

Movement is medicine, but there is a skill in writing and implementing an exercise program. Correct technique, progressive challenges and consistency are all key. MOVE Physiotherapists and Biokineticists lead each client to give them the best chance of achieving their desired outcomes and to meet mutual expectations in restoring health and wellbeing. Our boutique rehabilitation gym offers a friendly environment that is never too crowded or intimidating.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is exercise in the safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment of a heated indoor pool. Warm water can relax muscles, increase peripheral blood flow, allow for increased range of movement, off-load the joints, improve balance and strengthen muscle. It allows for safe mobilisation sooner in the rehabilitation process. General joint pain, low back pain, orthopaedic conditions, neurological conditions, arthritic pain, sports injuries, fibromyalgia, post-orthopaedic surgeries such as hip and knee replacements and many more all benefit from ‘hydro’. We are able to offer both one-on-one and small group sessions by appointment.

Injury Prevention & Movement Analysis

Screening is the process of identifying an existing problem, or factors potentially leading to a problem. You can’t treat what you don’t understand! At MOVE, we clinically assess you according to the relevant injury patterns seen in your sport, and often use video analysis to help ‘slow down’ and analyse fast sporting movements. Individualised or sports group prevention programs can then address any issues to help mitigate injury risk. And we are more than happy to collaborate with your coach.

Manual Therapies

Myofascial release, graded joint mobilisations and high velocity thrust joint manipulations are all ‘manual therapies’. MOVE's Physios skilfully use them to modulate pain, improve mobility and restore function to the body. Benefits are likely due to intricate neurophysiological mechanisms and hence are generally always used as part of a comprehensive management plan. Note that its a myth that manipulation “puts things back in” but it can help to restore mobility and modulate pain and control around the body.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a contemporary, evidence-based treatment used in orthopaedics, physiotherapy and sports medicine. Its main benefits are fast pain relief and mobility restoration. Non-invasive acoustic waves sent into the tissues trigger biological effects, which lead to faster healing and regeneration of tissue. With no need for painkillers, it makes an ideal therapy adjunct to speed up recovery and impact acute/chronic pain. Shockwave therapy covers a wide range of indications but it does require at least 3 sessions.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is the skilled insertion of fine acupuncture needles through the skin into targeted areas of affected muscle, known as myofascial trigger points. It is a contemporary adjunct treatment aimed at reducing the hypersensitivity of tissue often seen in injury and pain states. It does require client consent to treat these hyper-irritable points and taut bands in skeletal muscle with dry needling.

Sports Massage

Put yourself first!! If you are a regular exerciser or simply find yourself repeatedly in sustained postures, physical adaptations to the soft tissues may eventually result in pain, stiffness and mobility restrictions. Massage therapists now come standard with all professional athletes and sports teams to assist in the process of recovery and prevention of injury. Our massage therapists’ provide the highest level of care whether it is for personal wellbeing, rehabilitation or to enhance sports performance.

Sports taping

Sports taping can be used in a variety of applications for pain and injury management. The selection of tape and the technique used, like other treatments, needs to be individualised for each client. Rigid, elastic, kinesiological, biomechanical, and compressive tapes can all be applied alone or in combination in order to achieve different outcomes. MOVE physiotherapists are highly skilled and experienced in understanding which tape(s) to apply for all types of scenarios.
